Communication is key to success in completing online class requirements. Since there are not face to face meetings, students and parents need to feel at ease with the class and the instructor. A Welcome letter should include a personal introduction of the instructor, a welcome to the class, the class login information – course number, times, etc. Since online classes will be on a LMS, an embedded short video clip of how to access the LMS would be helpful.
Constant communication l will be crucial. If the class is for K-12 students, parents should also receive emails for upcoming assignments and events. I think Remind 101 would be a great tool for the online course, since both parent and student can sign up and receive notifications. You can now add an attachment to Remind 101 messages, this would be a great place to add a weekly newsletter of assignments and upcoming projects. Maintaining a interactive learning community will help both students and parents feel more comfortable throughout the synchronous class.
